Chinese New Year Calendar

Chinese lunar New Year is the longest chronological record introduced by Emperor Huang Ti which starts from 2600 B.C.
Lunar New Year Calendar is based on cycles of the moon and sun and because of this cyclical dating Chinese New Year can start from anywhere between last week of the January and the middle of the February as per western calendar.


It's been said that when Lord Buddha departed from earth, he called all the animals to bid him farewell but only 12 came.
It contains 5cycles of twelve years each and in this way is repeated after every 60 years. Chinese New Year Calendars have an old age legend famous about them.

So he rewarded those 12 animals by giving the names of the 12 years on their names. That's why in Chinese calendars each of the 12years is denoted by an animal. It is believed that the animal ruling a particular year has a huge influence on the person born in that year and that animal hides in his heart.

2011 is the year of the Rabbit. It is the Xin-Mao year. Xin (Metal) is the eighth of the ten celestial stems and Mao (Rabbit) is the fourth of the twelve terrestrial branches and marks the year of the Rabbit or Hare.
