Guru Nanak Jayanti

The all Sikh festivities revolve around the anniversaries of the 10 Sikh Gurus. These Gurus were liable for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs. Their birthdays, celebrated as Gurpurabs, are occasions for celebration and prayer among the Sikhs.

Guru Nanak Jayanti, the major of all the Gurupurabs or anniversaries of the 10 Sikh Gurus, is the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev. The organizer of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev, was born in the month of Kartik and his birthday is known as Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2014

In 2014 Guru Nanak Jayanti is on 6th of November i.e Thursday. This festival celebration is performed for three days in a chain. First two previous day of guru nanak birthday congestive reading of guru granth sahib. This is a forty eight hour lengthy is called Akhand path. Free langar and sweets are also offered to everyone irrespective of religious faith. It is served with a spirit of service and bhakti attachment. Man, women, children and student contribute in this celebration with great devotion.

Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebration

On the day of Gurupurub prabhat pheris or early morning processions that start from the gurudwaras and then moves to many localities singing hymns or shabads. The celebration lasts for three days. A march is carried out on the day earlier than his birthday which is led by the Panj Pyaras. They head the march carrying the Sikh flag, recognized as the Nishan Sahib and the Palki (Palanquin) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. On the end of the day burn crackers with friends and relatives as it is said that they mark the end of the day's celebration.
