Venice carnival is the largest and most popular Venetian festival celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. It is an internationally known festival; it is a center of attraction for the tourists from around the world. Masked people are the most seen in this festival which began in the 15th century but the traditions can be traced back in the 14th century.
The carnival in Venice offers numerous opportunities for spending money. Activities such as gambling dens, brothels, theatres, cafes, wine shops and restaurants are enough for spending your money on. The streets of carnival are full of people in masks due to which no difference could be made between nobility and common people. Masked couples are also an intrinsic part of the festival.
Both the man and woman dress as allegorical characters. When it comes to entertainment, street artists and singers enhance the beauty of the festival by adding life to it with songs and music produced by the guitars. The Venice carnival 2012 has started and will continue from 11th February to 21st February. Venice Carnival History
Venice carnival is a mixture of traditions and lively entertainment. It started as a time for celebration and expression throughout the classes, because wearing masks hid any form of identity between social classes. At present, approximately 3,000,000 visitors come to Venice each day for carnivals. There are various events and contests organized among which one of the most important events is the contest for the best mask. This contest takes place in the last weekend of the carnival and attracts one and all very year with its beautiful and attractive presentation, prizes and awards.
The historical start of Venice carnival dates back to 1296, when senate of the republic declared it official with an edict confirming the day before lent a public holiday. Earlier, the festival was all about traditions and cultural events but with time as the things kept changing and new generation stepped in, the festival became one of the most widely admired festivals around the world as it is now celebrated in a traditional and fun way.
