Festivals in Tuscany

The Italian calendar is flooded with celebrations of one variety or another, often related to sacred dates which can differ according to the year. There are several festivals all year round throughout Tuscany, but many are takes place during the summer.

Many sagre, or festivals dedicated around a unique local creation, festival begin in early summer and continue on through the fall as local specialties like truffles, wine, olive oil, marroni chestnuts come into season. Several of the towns in Tuscany host traditional and customary festivals yearly; occasionally more than once a year. The traditions and activities differ, but they all usually include medieval costume as the whole town celebrates and competes.

Viareggio carnival - It is the central holiday occasion of the year.
