Memorial Day is a special occasion for every American, as it tells again them of brave men who died while serving United States of America. The great American tradition of celebrating Memorial Day has been going on for close to a century and a half. Memorial Day is celebrated in the memory of the women and men of United States who have died in the military service.

Several people visit cemeteries and memorials on this day to honor the heroic deeds of brave soldiers. There is another custom of celebrating this event by hosting US flag. Many people also pay visits to those families whose relatives have died in the American Civil War.

Memorial Day was former known as Decoration Day and is observed on the last Monday of May. The day is marked in the history of United States of America every year as a tribute to all the men and women who lost their lives in different military operations while serving their country. The history of Memorial Day makes known that it started way back in 1967 when women in the south started decorating the graves on a particular day after the end of the Civil War.
