The Chinese zodiac is based on a 12-year cycle, with each year represented by a different animal. People born under each sign are said to exhibit sets of personality traits unique to that sign, and somewhat associated with the animal itself.
The Chinese horoscope system can further be refined by studying a person's birth month and even birth hour, but for most casual use, the zodiac is used with just the year. One of the most important uses for the signs of the Chinese zodiac is to determine if people are compatible. That is generally in a romantic sense, but any sort of relationship can be influenced by each person's birth sign.
Those faithful to the Chinese zodiac will always discuss with it before beginning a relationship, to make sure the signs are appropriate. Two incompatible signs are the easiest to determine. Relationships will be very tricky for any people whose animals signs are directly opposite one another on the zodiac wheel. Their personalities and views are just not going to interconnect well.
Chinese Astrology Compatibility
In Chinese astrology, signs compatibility can be sub-divided under 4 heads. It is assumed that there are 3 animals in each group that have the compatible thinking patterns. These groups are Action Orientation, Deep Thinking, Freedom, and Love for Peace. The animals that come under 'Action Orientation' group are Rat, Dragon and Monkey. The animals that belong to the group of 'Deep Thinking' are Ox, Snake and Rooster. The 'Freedom' animals are Dog, Horse and Tiger. On the other hand, the animals belong to the group 'Love for Peace' are Rabbit, Sheep and Pig.
The Chinese people believe that the Monkey, Rat and Dragon form a Chinese Astrology compatibility set. They have characteristics and personality that makes them more compatible with each other. The other compatibilty sets are the Snake, Rooster and Ox, the Pig, Rabbit and Goat and the Tiger, Horse and Dog.
In the 12 Animals Zodiac system of astrology, it is believed that ones character traits are influenced by our year of birth. Also based on our year of birth we are imbued with certain characteristics that make us more of less compatible with those born under certain animal sign.
