Pongal 2012

Pongal is the very important harvest festival of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, South India. It has constantly celebrated in January, the first month of the English calendar. The Pongal 2012 will celebrate on the date of 14th January. This festival also celebrates with Makar Sankranti that celebrated throughout rest India. Pongal celebration marks the growth and prosperity of the farmers.
 
This festival also marks the end of cold winter months and the arrival of spring. From this time the length of days slowly increases in the northern hemisphere. Celebration of Pongal ends for four days from the last day of the Tamil month. Maargazhi to the third day of Thai that is the month of January to February according to English calendar. It is the second and main day of the festival that has celebrated as Pongal every year.

The Pongal is a harvest festival that generally celebrated in southern state of India as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In 2012, the Pongal will fall on Friday, January 14. It is four-day harvest festivals of south India.As long as people have planted and collecting food, there has been some type of harvest festival.

The first day of Pongal celebration has called Bhogi Pongal, dedicated to Lord Indra. On the second day, the celebration has recognized as Surya Pongal that falls on the date of 15th January and Sun has worshipped. On the date of 16th January, the Maatu Pongal has celebrated on the third day and on this day, the cattle has worshipped. The Kaanum Pongal has celebrated on 4th day of the Pongal festivals with Aarti fall on 17th January, marked the end of the festivals of harvest.
