Makar Sankranti Lohri

Apart from Makar Sankranti there is one of the first festival of India named Lohri, it is a mark of culmination of winter and this festival is popular in the part of north India. 13th day of January is the date when lohri is celebrated with full joy and fervour. It is a festival of fertility and the spark of life.
 
Lohri consist a wish to Agni, and it generally comprises gazak, moongphali and till as Prasad which is passed to each other to take and wish to Agni for their wellness and prosperity in the new upcoming year. Lohri songs play a vital role in celebration with full fun and enjoy that consists beats of dhol and children sing and dance and finally asking for the Lohri Prasad. Altogether India is a country of multi religion people where every one celebrates multi caste events and festivals with great fervour and devotion.It is one of the famous festivals of Punjabis which depicts the end of winter and the coming of spring.

Lohri Festival is celebrated by millions of religious people with great pomp in North India. At this time Earth starts moving towards the sun marking the promising period of Uttarayan. First Lohri plays a major role for the newly wed and the new born babies as it marks fertility. At night, people gather around the bonfire and throw till, puffed rice & popcorns into the flames of the bonfire. Prayers are offered to the bonfire seeking wealth & prosperity. People make merry by dancing & singing habitual folk songs.
